Moon Data is a personal project. It has no accounts, no ads and no analytics, and it never sells or shares data. Here is exactly what happens to information on this site.
Moon and planet tools
When you enter a date on the Moon Sign, Sun Sign or Planet Signs pages, the server uses it to do the calculation and sends back the result. The date you enter isn't saved.
Birth Chart
- Your birth date, time and place are used only to calculate your chart. They aren't saved, logged or shared.
- When you search for your birthplace, the text you type is sent from this site's server to Open-Meteo's free city search to find matching places. Your IP address and birth details are never sent to them.
Moon Journal
- Your journal entries (mood, energy, tags and notes) are stored only in your browser on your device. They are never uploaded to this site.
- Because they live in your browser, anyone who uses the same browser profile on your device could see them, and clearing your browser data deletes them.
- You can export a backup file, import it again, or delete everything from the journal's Privacy & data page.
- If you install the journal as an app, your browser also keeps a copy of the app's files so it works offline. This copy contains no journal entries.
Moon Pulse (optional, off by default)
If you turn on anonymous sharing in the journal, saving an entry sends this site three things, at most once a day:
- the date,
- your mood rating (1–5), and
- your energy rating (1–5).
Nothing else is sent: no name, account, notes, tags, time of day or device ID. The database stores only those three values. To limit spam, the server briefly keeps your IP address in memory to count how often it has received ratings from it in the past hour; the IP address is never written to the database or any file.
The Moon Pulse page shows averages only, and a moon phase stays hidden until it has at least 10 ratings, so no single person's answer can be picked out. Because shared ratings aren't linked to you in any way, they can't be found or deleted individually later. You can turn sharing off at any time, and nothing more will be sent.
Cookies and browser storage
- The calculator forms use a security cookie that protects them from being submitted by other websites. It doesn't track you and isn't used for anything else.
- The Moon Journal uses your browser's local storage for your entries and settings, as described above.
- There are no advertising, analytics or tracking cookies.
Services this site relies on
- Open-Meteo powers the birthplace search on the Birth Chart page, using place data from GeoNames. Only the search text is sent to them.
- Microsoft Azure hosts this site. Like nearly every web host, Azure may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, pages requested and browser type) for security and troubleshooting. This site doesn't use those logs to track or identify anyone. See Microsoft's privacy statement.
Not medical advice
Moon Journal is for curiosity and self-reflection. It isn't a medical or mental-health tool, and its charts aren't a diagnosis. If you're struggling, please reach out to a doctor or someone you trust.
Children
This site isn't directed at children under 13, and it doesn't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new "last updated" date.
